Chinese President Xi Jinping Sends a Telegram of Gratitude to Icelandic President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson

On April 10th, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a telegram of gratitude to President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson of Iceland for his letter expressing condolences and good wishes on the occasion that China held a national mourning. President Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, extended heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Iceland who was also facing the severe challenge of COVID-19. He believed that Iceland would ultimately prevail over the outbreak soon. President Xi emphasized that it was imperative for the international community to strengthen confidence, act with unity and work together at such a moment. China will continue to act in an open, transparent and responsible manner in strengthening cooperation with WHO and all countries including Icealnd, sharing valuable experience to contain the pandemic and working together to safeguard global and regional public health.

On April 4th, President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson wrote a letter to President Xi and sent, on behalf of himself and the people of Iceland, their sincere condolences and good wishes to the Chinese people who have been badly hit by the pandemic. He expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and assistance from China, and expected that the human beings would conquer the virus and alleviate the harm it has inflicted upon the world.
