Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson Visits China

At the invitation of State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi of China, Mr. Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland paid an official visit to China from September 6 to 10.

Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Mr. Gudlaugur Thór Thórdarson respectively. The two sides agreed to enhance the alignment of development strategies and carry out cooperation centering on the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The two sides also exchanged in-depth views upon practical cooperation in fields as economy, trade, geothermal energy, tourism, Arctic affairs and climate change.

Minister Thórdarson met with Vice Minister Fu Ziying of Ministry of Commerce of China, and signed MOU on Strengthening Cooperation on Geothermal Energy and MOU on Strengthening Cooperation on E-Commerce. Minister Thórdarson met with Minister Ni Yuefeng of General Administration of Customs of China and signed Protocol for the Supply of Icelandic Mutton for Import to China. During his visit, Minister Thórdarson also visited Xiongan New Area and studied the Sino-Icelandic cooperation project on geothermal energy. Minister Thórdarson also paid a visit to Huawei Company of China.
