Chinese Embassy in Iceland Hosts National Day Reception

September 21, H.E. Ambassador Su Ge and Madame Li Jing hosted a reception at the Embassy to mark the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Icelandic Foreign Minister, H.E. Mr. Skarphéðinsson and his wife, government officials, diplomats, and guests from all circles attended the reception.

In his speech, Ambassador Su says that China has attained remarkable social progress and her economy is now the world’s 2nd largest.However, in terms of GDP per capita, China still has a long way to go. Ambassador Su spoke highly of the ever-deepening China-Iceland relations, citing the historic visit to Iceland by the Chinese Premier Wen jiabao in April, and the various forms of bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Su disclosed that his tenure would be up soon and extended deep appreciation to all friends in Iceland. He bid farewell by inviting Ms. Pálmadóttir and her choir to perform “Time to Say Goodbye”, bringing the reception to an emotional climax.
