Celebrations of 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between China and Iceland

December 14, Embassy of China in Iceland hosted a reception to celebrate the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iceland. Government officials and representatives from all circles attended the event. A specially published photo album which marks the 40th anniversary was presented.

 

 

Ambassador Su Ge spoke highly of the bilateral relations. He said, China-Iceland relations have developed steadily on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1971. In recent years, the two countries have made positive achievements in fields such as finance and trade, fishery, culture, education, tourism and geothermic development.China is willing to work together with Iceland, with the 40th anniversary as a new starting point, to enhance mutual understanding and trust, and uplift friendly cooperation to a new height.

 

 

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Össur Skarphéðinsson, said in his speech, over the past four decades, the two countries have treated each other as equals and cooperated as friends. Following the financial crisis the two countries stood together and gave each other trust and support. There has been a market increase in all fields, including high level visits, culture, trade and economic cooperation. Iceland is set to make use of the new opportunities which would benefit both countries and their peoples.
