The Parliament of Iceland Enjoys Good Relations with the National People's Congress of China

The Althingi (Parliament) of Iceland enjoys good relations with the National People's Congress of China, H.E. Mr. Sturla Bodvarsson, President of the Althingi of Iceland, stated this to H.E. Mr. Zhang Keyuan, the new Ambassador of China to Iceland, who paid a courtesy call on the 3rd of September, 2007.

The two Parliaments, Mr. Bodvarsson further said, have deepened mutual understanding and friendship with more and more exchanges. The Icelandic side would like to consolidate and promote this good relationship together with the Chinese side. It is beyond question for the Althingi of Iceland to stand firmly on the one-China policy. Mr. Bodvarsson also recalled gladly his visit to China in November 2005 and wished to have another chance to visit China again.

Ambassador Zhang appreciated the firm stance of the Althingi of Iceland on the one-China policy and said that leaders and members of the Althingi of Iceland were welcome to visit China at a time convenient to both sides.

After the call, Ambassador Zhang took a short tour in the Parliament House, accompanied by Mr. Thorsteinn Magnusson, Deputy Secretary-General of the Althingi of Iceland.
