The Icelandic Mayor Spoke Highly of the Chinese-Icelandic Relations

Mr. Vilhjalmsson T. Vilhjalmsson, Mayor of Reykjavik, highly appraised the development of the Icelandic-Chinese relations in the last few years, which witnessed frequent personnel exchanges and broader and deeper cooperation in various fields. He stated this to H.E. Mr. Zhang Keyuan, the newly arrived Chinese Ambassador, who paid a courtesy call on the 17th of August, 2007. He said that exchanges between Reykjavik and cities in China had also been developing rapidly. He received delegations respectively from Liaoning Province and Qingdao City of China in July this year. He himself had visited China three times and was impressed by the rapid development of China. Beijing City would host the Olympic Games in 2008 and Shanghai City would host the World Expo in 2010. He wished these two great events successes.

Mr. Zhang appreciated Mr. Vilhjalmsson's good sentiments towards China and the Chinese people. He said that Reykjavik was the most north capital in the world and an international city with unique features, from which the cities in China could learn a lot. The City of Shanghai which will host 2010 World Expo. expects the attendance of the Reykjavik City in the affair.
