On the 22nd of August, H.E. Mr. Zhang Keyuan presented to H.E. Mr. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of the Republic of Iceland, the Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador Extraodinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Iceland.

Ambassador Zhang conveyed to H.E. Mr. Grimsson the cordial greeting from H.E. Mr. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China. Ambassador Zhang highly commented on achievements attained by the people of Iceland in building their country, appreciated and thanked the Government of Iceland for its adherence to the one-China policy and efforts in  promoting the Sino-Icelandic relations. Ambassador Zhang was pleased to see the rapid progress in bilateral relations and would like to endeavor to consolidate and further develop the friendly cooperation between the two countries. H.E. Mr. Grimsson highly appraised the Icelandic-Chinese relations as a model of relationship between a big country and a smaller one and wished that the bilteral relations between Iceland and China could scale a new height.

After the ceremony of presenting credentials, the President hosted a welcome reception for Ambassador Zhang, attended by  more than 100 guests from various social walks of Iceland.
