Embassy of China in Iceland Holds Reception for the 69th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

On 27 September 2018, Ambassador of China to Iceland Jin Zhijian and wife He Linyun held reception for the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Present at the reception were Ms. Bryndís Haraldsdóttir, Deputy Speaker of Althingi, together with over 200 Icelandic government senior officials, members of Althingi, foreign diplomats, overseas Chinese,Chinese students in Iceland and friends from different circles.

In his remarks, Ambassador Jin first reviewed the economic and social development in the past 69 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China. He stressed that with the leadership of CPC, China has grown from being weak and poor to an independent nation, it has stood up, grown rich, and is becoming strong. China has become the world's second largest economy, the largest industrial producer, the largest trader of goods and the holder of the largest foreign exchange reserves. China's economic structure has undergone major changes, Innovation-driven industries are leading a global trend, poverty alleviation has made decisive progress, the rule of law has been comprehensively advanced, the environment has seen gradual improvement. China is marching forward in accordance with the grand blueprint drawn by the 19th CPC National Congress.

Ambassador Jin said this year marks the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up of China. As China's second revolution, reform and opening up has not only profoundly changed the country but also greatly influenced the whole world. China will not close its door to the world and will only become more and more open. China puts forward the vision of creating a new form of international relations, a community of shared future for mankind and the Belt and Road Initiative, providing the Chinese solutions to the reform of global governance system.

Ambassador Jin at last pointed out that China-Iceland relations maintain sound development this year. The two sides have witnessed frequent high-level political exchanges. The past 5 years also witnessed many fruitful outcomes since the signing of China Iceland Free Trade Agreement. The cooperation in geo-thermal energy, Arctic affairs, tourism have been further promoted. The cultural exchanges have been more active and diversified. China and Iceland also have close cooperation on many international issues like safeguarding world peace, promoting common development, protecting environment and tackling climate changes. China-Iceland relations will see a bright future.

Guests at presence warmly applauded over the remarks by Ambassador Jin. The rich content of the remarks offered them more confidence on China and China-Iceland relations. Performers of China and Iceland presented marvelous shows which were warmly welcomed. All the guests highly appraised the great achievements of China's development, and China's important role in international affairs. They suggested their common wish that China-Iceland relations will develop further.
