"Silk Road" Chinese and Icelandic Music Concert Successfully Held in Reykjavik

On 3rd June 2018, "Silk Road" Chinese and Icelandic Music Concert was held in Harpa, Reykjavik. The concert was jointly sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles(CFLAC), the Federation of Icelandic Artists and Harpa International Music Festival, in association with the Chinese Embassy in Iceland. Among the 400 audience were Ambassador Jin Zhijian and his wife Madame He Linyun, Mrs. Zhao Shi, Executive Vice-chairwomen of CFLAC, Mr. Erling Johannesson, Chairman of the Federation of Icelandic Artists, together with representatives of local Chinese and different sectors of society in Iceland.

In his remarks, Ambassador Jin Zhijian mentioned that over 2,000 years ago, the Silk Road and the maritime Silk Road connected China with Europe and elsewhere, linking the East and the West civilizations together.5 years ago,Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping put forward the initiative of building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road ("the belt and road initiative"),which is a great idea with profound significance, offering a new platform of cooperation between China and other parts of the world in the new era. Ever since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Iceland in 1971, the bilateral relations have achieved sound and steady progress. He wishes and believes the Belt and Road Initiative could bring the two countries closer with more practical cooperation, which will benefit the two peoples. The special arrangement of artists both from China and Iceland to perform on the same stage truly reflects the breadth and depth of the development of China-Iceland relations. Their performance will make tonight both memorable and enjoyable for all the guests present.

In her remarks, Executive Vice-Chairwomen Mrs. Zhao Shi stressed that she believed the concert could show the unique charm of China's folk music, promote exchanges in the area of music and art, consolidate friendship between the peoples of China and Iceland. The concert would also be a splendid symphony of cultural exchanges in creating a community of shared future for mankind.

Mr. Erling Johannesson expressed his warm welcome to the delegation of CFLAC and the Chinese musicians who brought the beauty of musical arts to the Icelandic people. The Federation of Icelandic Artists would take the opportunity of signing the memorandum of cooperation with CFLAC to further deepen cooperation, to support more fruitful exchanges between the artists of both countries , to build bridges for artists to "go out" and promote mutual understanding between the two peoples.

At the concert, the Chinese artists presented famous Chinese folk music pieces "The Moon Reflected on the Erquan Spring", "Horse Racing", "Ambush from All Sides", "Hundreds of Birds Saluting the Phoenix", "Mulberry Trees of Qin" ect. The "Sheep Song Committee Chorus" presented three Icelandic madrigals and folk songs. The Chinese and Icelandic artists performed Chinese songs "Leaving Home", "My Brothers are Back", "Deep in the Night" in Huqin with Ensemble. Their fantastic performance was warmly received by the audience with repeated applauses. Many Icelandic friends showed a keen interest in the Chinese folk music, wishing all-dimensional and broad-scoped cooperation between China and Iceland could be enhanced with the new platform of the Belt and Road Initiative, and promoting the China-Iceland relations to a new level.
