Ambassador JIN Zhijian meets with chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Althingi

On 31 May, Chinese Ambassador to Iceland JIN Zhijian met with Ms. Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Althingi. The two sides had a cordial conversation regarding the bilateral relations as as well as how to further strengthen the cooperation and exchanges between the legislative bodies and political parties of China and Iceland .

Ambassador JIN said that the relations between China and Iceland have been developing smoothly and soundly in recent years with frequent exchanges of high-ranking officials. In January the Parliament Speaker of Iceland Mr. Sigfusson paid a successful visit to China along with the other Nordic and Baltic Parliament speakers. Iceland is the first European country to sign Free Trade Agreement with China, China is Iceland's biggest trading partner as well as origin of tourists in Asia. The cooperation between the two countries in the areas of geothermal utilization, fishing, innovation and Arctic have been fruitful and promising. Ms. Sigurbjörnsdóttir is welcome pay an official visit to China at a convenient time for both sides to further broaden the exchanges of the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Ms. Sigurbjörnsdóttir said that she is glad to see the great achievement of the pragmatic cooperation between Iceland and China, Iceland is willing to further enhance the cooperation and exchanges between the legislative bodies and political parties of the two countries, she looks forward to having the opportunity to visit China in the future.
