Coach Accident with Chinese Citizens On Board in Iceland

Around 11 a.m. 27 December, a tour bus with more than 40 Chinese citizens on board had an accident near Vík on the south coast of Iceland, around 250 km away from the Capital City Reykjavik. One Chinese citizen has been confirmed dead and many others injured. More than 10 people in serious conditions have been transferred by helicopters to the National Hospital for treatment in Reykjavik, and the Icelandic police is still investigating the cause of the accident.

After learning the news, the Chinese Embassy attached great importance and immediately launched emergency response mechanism. The Official in charge Mr. Liu Mingming made urgent deployment regarding consular protection, and paid a visit to the Center for Rescue as well as the National Hospital along with consular officers for more detailed information of the situation. The Icelandic side to is urged to do their utmost to rescue the injured and investigate the cause of the accident at their earliest convenience.

The Embassy will follow up closely and offer necessary assistance to Chinese citizen whenever needed.

The Chinese Embassy hereby reminds all the Chinese citizens traveling in Iceland to pay close attention to personal and traffic safety in winter.
