Ambassador Zhang Weidong Meets with ICCS 's New Chairperson Mrs. Gudrun Margret Thrastardottir.

On November 1, Ambassador Zhang Weidong met at the embassy with Mrs. Gudrun Margret Thrastardottir, the new chairperson of the Icelandic Chinese Cultural Society (ICCS). ICCS ex-Chairman Mr. Arnthor Helgason and vice chairman Kristján Jónsson were present.

Ambassador Zhang congratulated Thrastardottir on her becoming ICCS's chairperson, and spoke highly of the contributions that she has made to to the two countries' people-to-people cultural exchanges and friendship. Ambassador Zhang also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Arnthor Helgason, for his great efforts when he served as the chairman of the ICCS. Ambassador Zhang said that a few days ago, the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) took place in Beijing successfully, guiding China into a new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics critical, the cooperation between China and Iceland will face new opportunities. He hoped that ICCS would continue to give play to its strength to seize the new opportunities for the development of bilateral relations and make new contributions to the exchanges between Chinese and Icelandic peoples in cultural, youth and other fields.

Mrs. Thrastardottir briefed the Ambassador on ICCS's plan in the near future. She said that ICCS is willing to work with its Chinese partners to explore new approaches to cooperation and promote mutual understandings between the peoples of Iceland and China .


Founded in 1953, the Icelandic Chinese Cultural Society aims to promote the cultural exchanges and people to people friendships between Iceland and China.
