|Ambassador Zhang Weidong Attends Lantern Festival Celebration of Northern Light Confucius Institute of the University of Iceland|
On 11 February 2017, at the invitation of Northern Light Confucius Institute of the University of Iceland, Ambassador Zhang Weidong, together with Guðbjörg Linda Rafnsdóttir, Pro-Rector of the University, Guðmundur Hálfdánarson, Dean of School of Humanities, Magnús Björnsson and Qi Huimin, Directors of the Confucius Institute, Arnthor Helgason, Chairman of the Chinese Icelandic Cultural Society and some 300 people from all walks of life, joined the Lantern Festival celebration sponsored by the Confucius Institute.
In his speech, Ambassador Zhang extended greetings to all the guests present and introduced to them the traditional customs of the festival. He congratulated the achievements made by the Confucius Institute in helping Icelandic students and others learn Chinese and promoting Chinese culture and China-Icelandic cultural exchanges. He hoped the celebration would further enhance the understanding of Icelandic people towards Chinese culture as well as the friendship between the two peoples.
Chinese and Icelandic teachers and students from the Confucius Institute preformed Chinese songs, dances and martial arts. Guests actively participated in the games and other activities. They also tasted some delicious Chinese food. The atmosphere of the event was friendly, joyous and warm.
