Embassy of China in Iceland Holds Reception for the 67th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

On 29 September 2016, Ambassador of China to Iceland Zhang Weidong and wife Zhou Saixing held reception for the 67th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Present at the reception were Ms. Lilja Alfreðsdóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Mr. Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture of Iceland, Ms. Sigrún Magnúsdóttir, Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources of Iceland, Mr. Kristján L. Möller, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland and Ms. Ásta Ragnheiður Jóhannesdóttir, Former Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland, together with over 350 Icelandic government officials, parliamentarians, foreign diplomats, staff of Chinese enterprises, Chinese students in Iceland and friends from different circles attend the reception.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Zhang introduced China's economic and social achievements during the past 67 years. He said that the Chinese people has not only seized its fate, but also changed it. China has developed from a fragmented and underprivileged country to a prosperous country. China's economy grew by 6.7% in the first half of this year, maintaining a moderate and steady development trend. China's economy has bright future with great potential.

 

Ambassador Zhang pointed out that China successfully hosted the G20 Summit this September. Many important consensuses were reached during this Summit, which will be helpful to the sustained and steady development of the world economy.

As underlined by Ambassador Zhang, this year marks the 45th anniversary of China-Iceland diplomatic ties. The two countries' cooperation in political, economic, cultural and educational fields have expanded remarkably. Both sides will take this opportunity to push bilateral relations to a new height, and together with other countries, to make contributions to the creation of a universal community of shared win-win future for mankind.

The reception was permeated with warm and friendly atmosphere. Guests spoke highly of great achievements of China's social and economic developments. Chinese and Icelandic students and overseas Chinese gave wonderful performances at the reception, drawing warm applause.
