|Embassy of China in Iceland Holds 2016 Spring Festival Reception|
On 3rd February, Ambassador Zhang Weidong held a Spring Festival reception. Present at the reception were Mr. Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture of Iceland, Mr. Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson, Permanent Secretary of State of Iceland, Mr. Kristján Skarphéðinsson, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Innovation, Ms. Ásta Magnúsdóttir, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Iceland, Mr. Kristján L. Möller, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Mrs. Ásta R. Jóhannesdóttir, former Speaker of the Parliament, together with around 200 government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats, entrepreneurs, overseas Chinese, Chinese students in Iceland and friends from different circles.
In his speech, Ambassador Zhang said that there are some similarities in customs of New Year celebrations in China and Iceland. Both countries' customs imply good meanings of ringing the old year out and the new year in, and praying for the better future. In 2015, China's economy grew by 6.9%. It showed positive trends of stability and China continued to make contribution to world economy. China-Iceland relations achieved a lot in 2015. Progress was seen in mutual high-level visits, economic and trade ties, exchanges in education and culture. Ambassador Zhang pointed out that this year is the year of monkey. Both countries shall join hands and leverage wisdom to contribute to further advance bilateral relations and build a common community of mankind on the basis of peace, win-win cooperation and harmony.
The reception was permeated with warm, happy and friendly atmosphere.
