|ACWF Delegation Visits Iceland and Attends the International Conference Celebrating the Centenary of Women's Suffrage in Iceland|
From 21-24 October 2015, the delegation headed by Ms. Tan Lin, Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) and Director of the Women’s Studies Institute of China, visited Iceland and attended the International Conference Celebrating the Centenary of Women’s Suffrage in Iceland. Ms. Tan addressed the celebratory seminar in honour of Ms Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first female elected president in Iceland and the world. Ms. Tan spoke highly of the achievements in the area of women’s rights made by Iceland over the past century, pointing out that this year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Women’s Conference and the government of China actively promotes the rights and interests of the Chinese and world's women and has made great contribution in this regard. She called for joint efforts to build and share a better world for women as well as for all the people as a whole.
During the visit, the delegation also had meetings with Ms. Eygló Harðardóttir, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing of Iceland, Mr. Stefán H. Jóhannesson, Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Ms. Gréta Gunnarsdóttir, Ambassador on Human Rights of Iceland, Ms Hanna Eiríksdóttir, Director of the Icelandic National Committee for UN Women, Ms. Erla Hlín Hjálmarsdóttir, Project Manager of United Nations University Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme, Ms. Margrét Kristín Magnúsdóttir, Psychologist of the Children's House of Iceland. They exchanged views on the protection of the rights and interests of women and children, among other issues.
Ambassador Zhang Weidong met with the delegation and attended relevant events.
