Chinese Ambassador to Iceland Jin Zhijian Visits the Directorate of Health of Iceland

On January 31, Ambassador Jin Zhijian visited the Directorate of Health of Iceland, and met with Dr. Alma D. Möller, the Director of Health and Dr. Þórólfur Guðnason, the Chief Epidemiologist. Ambassador Jin introduced the situation of China's battle against current outbreak of pneumonia caused by novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

Ambassador Jin said that since the pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus occurred, the Chinese government has taken the most comprehensive and rigorous prevention and control measures with a strong sense of responsibility for people's health. Acting with openness, transparency and in a responsible manner, China has provided timely updates of the outbreak and the genome sequence of the coronavirus. Such efforts are fully recognized and highly commended by the WHO and the international community. China is willing to keep close contact and cooperation with Directorate of Health and all relevant parties in Iceland to jointly handle the matters related to the epidemic.

Dr. Möller and Dr. Guðnason appreciated Ambassador's introduction, and spoke highly of the measures taken by the Chinese government to fight the epidemic. The Directorate of Health is willing to enhance cooperation with the Embassy to jointly prevent the risk of virus spread in Iceland.
